Meeting on reproductive health in crisis

The 17th Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crisis is being held on 8-10 November in Athens.

At the meeting focusing on sexual and reproductive health issues in refugee crisis with the participation of experts from all over the world, the practices and policies of safe pregnancy, contraception and maternal and infant health will be examined.

The meeting was welcomed by Secretary General of Public Health, Yiannis Baskozos, who referred to the implementation of the medical protocol on gender violence developed under PHILOS program as well as to the methodology used in the training of PHILOS and NGO’s healthcare professionals and executives working both in refugee camps and in primary health structures. Special mention was made of the contribution of UNHCR, the United Nations Population Fund and the International Organization for Migration to the successful organization of a series of seminars on the protocol on addressing gender violence.
