The first-ever World Food Safety Day, adopted by World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will be celebrated on 07 June 2019 under the theme “Food Safety, everyone’s business”. On June 07, the importance of collaboration between governments, producers and consumers will be emphasized, aiming at the consumption of safe food and the avoidance of foodborne diseases.
National Public Health Organization (NPHO) is responsible for the surveillance of infectious diseases caused by the consumption of contaminated food in Greece.
All cases which are reported to NPHO are investigated and the necessary measures are implemented in collaboration with the public health authorities of the country.
In case of foodborne disease outbreaks, investigation protocols are applied according to the international practices, respecting the principles of “One Health”.
NPHO responds to questions about foodborne diseases. Public and health professionals can find more information about foodborne diseases (currently only in Greek) in the following link https://bit.ly/2MjdwAj.
